Visakhapatnam: The state government is taking a significant step toward skill development as the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) signed a letter of intent (LoI) with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) to set up a Skill and Community Development Centre (SCDC) at Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district.
The proposed centre aims to bring industry-oriented vocational training and community livelihood programmes under one roof and supports fishermen, farmers, local youth and women through practical training, livelihood initiatives and links to relevant government schemes.
Minister for Human Resources Development, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Real Time Governance Nara Lokesh, said the priority is to help young people in Andhra Pradesh build skills that lead to employment and ensure that local communities benefit from the state’s industrial growth. “The proposed centre at Nakkapalli brings together industry-linked training and livelihood support. We look forward to working with AM/NS India to develop an initiative that strengthens the livelihoods of fishermen and farmers while creating opportunities for youth and women,” he emphasised.
How will the centre benefit the youth? Industry-oriented vocational training, recognised certification and placement assistance for eligible local youth, programmes in fisheries, agriculture and livestock management to strengthen existing livelihoods; and support for women-led enterprises and skill-building are some of the benefits the eligible youth could look forward to.
For people in Nakkapalli and nearby areas, the centre aims to improve their chances of finding jobs or becoming self-employed, raise household incomes, and help local communities become partners in the region’s industrial growth.
The LoI was signed by G Ganesh Kumar, Managing Director and CEO, APSSDC, and Ashutosh Telang of AM/NS India. It records the parties’ preliminary intent to set up the centre. The detailed arrangements for its development and implementation will be set out in a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Ashutosh Telang, Director and Vice President – HR and Administration, AM/NS India, mentioned: “Through our collaboration with APSSDC, we aim to help eligible youth gain industry-relevant training, recognised certification and support in finding employment.”
