Address journalists’ problems, TUWJ(IJ) leaders demand
In Short
Seek healthcare on par with government employees, immediate resolution of housing issues

Leaders of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ-IJ)
WARANGAL: Leaders of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ-IJ) have urged the Centre and State governments to take special measures for the welfare of journalists and resolve their long-pending issues immediately.
The demand was made during a programme organised by the Warangal district committee of TUWJ(IJ) on Friday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, following the directions of the national committee and the call given by the State committee. The programme was held as ‘Working Journalists’ Demands Day’.
Journalists garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Greater Warangal office and paid tributes. Later, they submitted a written representation seeking the resolution of journalists’ problems.
Speaking on the occasion, TUWJ(IJ) national council member Sangoju Ravi demanded welfare and medical facilities for journalists on par with government employees. He called for steps to provide free medical treatment to journalists in government, private and corporate hospitals.
Ravi also sought the immediate resolution of the long-pending issues related to houses and house sites for journalists. He expressed anger over the alleged negligence of public representatives and officials in handing over completed double-bedroom houses to beneficiaries in the Warangal East constituency.
He urged the government to ensure that eligible journalists are provided houses and house sites.
District union president Sriram Ramachander said district committees were working in line with the struggles being undertaken by the national and State leadership to resolve journalists’ issues across Telangana. He said special attention was being paid to the problems faced by journalists in Warangal district.
As part of the programme, a written representation highlighting journalists’ demands was submitted on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, he said. Ramachander urged the Centre and State governments to resolve the issues at the earliest and extend all possible support to journalists.
District general secretary Matta Durgaprasad, treasurer Kodati Gopalakrishna, Electronic Media district president Kandula Sridhar, vice-presidents Jannu Swamy, Kurna Venkateshwarlu and Mahadevuni Jagadeesh, assistant secretaries Bommagani Satish, Chintanuri Raju and Badhavath Balaji, and executive committee members Hussain Pasha, Akram, Babar, Desu Laxman, Kandula Srinivas, Gade Ravi and Sheelam Ramesh, among others, were present.
