Hanumakonda: Warangal West MLA NainiRajender Reddy alleged that attempts were being made to take away the right to vote guaranteed by the Constitution and called such efforts dangerous to democracy.
He urged citizens to come forward to protect voting rights, the Constitution and democratic institutions.
Naini participated as chief guest in a protest organised in Hanumakonda along with Vardhannapet MLA KR Nagaraju against the arrest of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a protest in Delhi demanding his removal.
Congress cadres led by Hanumakonda District Congress Committee president InagalaVenkataramireddy took out a rally from the DCC office to Ashok Junction and raised slogans against the Centre. An effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also burnt.
Naini said Rahul Gandhi had been raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and deletion of voters’ names. He alleged that public institutions were being weakened and claimed that paper leaks were affecting students’ futures.
He condemned the detention of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other Opposition leaders in Delhi and urged citizens to defend democracy.
