Ceiling Plaster Falls at MGM Hospital, Three Injured

WARANGAL: Three people, including a patient undergoing treatment for paralysis, were injured after portions of the slab ceiling fell in the Aarogyasri ward of the government-run MGM Hospital in Warangal on Sunday.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of patients and attendants at the hospital and exposed the alleged negligence in maintaining the hospital buildings.

Patient, two attendants injured

The injured patient was identified as Mastan, 55, a resident of Uppugal village in Jaffergadh mandal of the Ghanpur Assembly constituency. Portions of the ceiling fell on him while he was undergoing treatment in the ward.

Two attendants present at the spot—Yellamma, 50, and Omkar, 33—also sustained injuries. The sudden fall of the ceiling plaster created panic among patients and attendants in the ward.

Patients seek immediate repairs

Doctors provided immediate treatment to the injured. However, the incident has caused concern among patients and their relatives, who questioned how a hospital meant to provide medical care could itself become a source of danger.

Hundreds of patients and attendants visit MGM Hospital every day. Patients and their relatives said the hospital authorities, engineering officials and the Medical and Health Department should regularly inspect the condition of the buildings, identify vulnerable areas and take up repairs.

They demanded a comprehensive inspection of the old buildings, wards and slabs at MGM Hospital and immediate repairs in all dangerous areas to prevent such incidents in the future.
