Hanumakonda: Former Minister and BRS leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao has demanded the immediate release of irrigation water to protect crops in drought-hit areas, alleging that the state government is ignoring farmers’ concerns.
Speaking after meeting employment guarantee workers at Banjara village in Devaruppula mandal on Wednesday, Rao said farmers were being forced to seek wage employment as ponds lacked sufficient water for cultivation. He said crops already sown, including paddy, were drying up due to inadequate irrigation.
Rao questioned the government’s decision to undertake employment guarantee works during the rainy season, stating that such works were generally taken up during summer. He alleged that hundreds of acres were remaining uncultivated because of water shortages.
He also raised concerns over urea shortages, power supply, crop loan waivers and delays in Rythu Bandhu payments. Rao urged the government to release irrigation water immediately and protect farmers’ investments.
He said the BRS would continue its agitation and pressure the government until irrigation water was supplied.
