From beedi-rolling household to national award winner

Hanumakonda: Mandala Parashuramulu has dedicated more than 35 years to social service, working for children, women and vulnerable sections of society. Born into a poor family in Warangal on March 4, 1968, he experienced hardship from an early age. His father was a daily-wage worker and his mother rolled beedis to support the family.

Parashuramulu began his public service journey as a Bharat Scout and Guide in 1981 and received the President’s Scout Award in 1985. A meeting with Mother Teresa during her 1988 visit to Warangal further inspired his commitment to serving the poor.

He later founded Abhyudaya Seva Samithi and worked on literacy, child labour, child marriages, women’s empowerment, child rights and environmental protection. He also served with Nehru Yuva Kendra and on child welfare bodies.

His contributions have earned several state and national awards, including the National Youth Award in 1997.
