WARANGAL: A man scaled a 33 kV electricity transmission tower in distress after his wife refused to return to the matrimonial home, in an incident on the outskirts of Kolanupalli in Rayaparthy mandal, Warangal district.
Bhukya Ravi, from Guduru Narsingapura Tanda in Palakurthy mandal, married five years ago. For some time, the couple had been facing differences, and his wife had gone to her parents’ house and was staying there. Despite Ravi’s repeated requests for her to come back, she did not return, leaving him deeply distressed, locals said.
On Tuesday morning, Ravi climbed the 33 kV tower near Kolanupalli and threatened to commit suicide. Police and villagers rushed to the spot and urged him to come down, but he initially refused.
SI Mutyam Rajender then spoke to Ravi on the phone for about two hours, counselling him. Finally, Ravi responded to the SI’s words and climbed down safely, bringing relief to police and onlookers.
Police advised that family disputes should not be allowed to escalate to the point of endangering one’s life.
