WARANGAL: More than 1,000 people, including students, youth, public representatives, police personnel and residents from various sections, participated in a 5K run organised here on Saturday to raise awareness against drug abuse and pledge support for a drug-free society.

Organised by the district police under the theme “Run Against Drugs – Say NO To Drugs,” the run began at PSR Convention Hall and passed through the bus stand, railway station road and Ayyappa temple road before concluding at the starting point. Participants expressed solidarity with the campaign to eliminate narcotics from society.

Youth Urged to Stay Away From Drugs

Addressing the gathering, MLA Murali Naik called upon the youth to come forward in the fight against the drug menace. He urged them to stay away from narcotics and focus on education, sports, employment and achieving their goals.

He said drug abuse not only damages an individual’s life but also severely affects families and society. Calling for a drug-free society, he said that the responsibility should not rest with the police alone and appealed to every citizen to treat it as a social responsibility.

Parents Asked to Monitor Children

MLC Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao said drug abuse could push the youth’s future into darkness. He advised parents to pay special attention to their children’s behaviour, friendships and habits.

He appealed to the public to immediately inform the police if they had information regarding the illegal transportation, sale or consumption of ganja and other narcotics. He said every person should become a partner in the movement against drugs.

Police Assure Confidentiality

District Superintendent of Police Dr. Shabarish, IPS, said narcotics had a serious impact on the health, thought process and future of the youth. He urged young people to focus on their life goals rather than becoming addicted to drugs.

The SP appealed to citizens to report information on the consumption, sale or illegal transportation of ganja and other drugs to the police immediately. He assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential and appropriate legal action would be taken.

He said the police control room number 8712656999 could be contacted to share information related to drugs. He added that public cooperation was essential to make the fight against narcotics successful.

Zumba Dance, Prizes Add Colour

A Zumba dance performance was a major attraction at the event. Youth and members of the public participated enthusiastically, highlighting the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

SP Dr. Shabarish presented prizes to the winners and congratulated them for their performance in the run.
