Power Supply Disruption at Bhadrakali Temple on Day One of Navaratri Draws Criticism
WARANGAL: The Sri Bhadrakali Temple in Warangal witnessed a power supply disruption on the opening day of the Sharan Navaratri celebrations, causing inconvenience to devotees who had gathered in large numbers for darshan. According to reports, electricity supply remained disrupted for about two to three hours, affecting women, children and elderly devotees.
Advance Intimation Failed
Temple authorities had reportedly written to the Electricity Department in advance, seeking uninterrupted power supply during the Navaratri festivities. Despite this, the outage raised questions over coordination between the temple administration and the power department.
Questions are being raised as to why the disruption occurred despite prior communication, and why supply could not be restored immediately.
No Alternative Arrangements
The incident has also brought the Endowments Department’s preparedness under scrutiny. With thousands of devotees expected during Navaratri, critics say the temple should have kept a generator or other emergency power arrangements ready to ensure lighting and crowd safety in the event of an outage.
A power failure during peak footfall can create confusion in queue lines, entry and exit routes, particularly for children and senior citizens.
Demand for Permanent Solution
Devotees and locals have urged the Electricity and Endowments departments to respond immediately and ensure that the problem does not recur during the remaining days of the festival. They have demanded a review of coordination between the two departments and the installation of reliable backup power arrangements at the temple.
The Bhadrakali Temple is one of Warangal’s major shrines, and its Sharan Navaratri celebrations draw devotees from across the region.
