Warangal Fort mounted police buildings face alleged encroachment
Warangal: Buildings constructed for a proposed mounted police unit at historic Warangal Fort are allegedly being encroached upon, with horse stalls reportedly converted into cattle sheds and a dairy farm.
The project, planned as a tourist attraction, was initiated during the previous government’s tenure. On October 1, 2016, then Collector Vakati Karuna and Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu inspected a site near the north-western entrance of the mud fort, close to two buried trikuta temples.
Of the 10 acres of government land in the area, 5.5 acres were reportedly allotted for the project. Ten rooms were constructed for horses, along with a room for their care and trainers. However, the mounted police unit has yet to become operational.
Residents allege that the buildings have been used for private activities, including cattle rearing, and claim that alcohol and drug use takes place there at night. These allegations have not been officially verified.
Locals have urged the authorities to inspect the premises, remove any confirmed encroachments and restore the buildings to their intended purpose. They have also called for better security, cleanliness and protection of government property at the historic site.
