WARANGAL: A young man poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire inside the Ajamzahi Mills Colony police station in Warangal on Friday, leading to a tense scene at the outpost. The station writer suffered injuries while trying to help extinguish the flames, and both the youth and the injured officer were rushed to MGM Hospital for treatment.
Incident details
According to reports, the youth, identified as Katta Harshit, entered the police station after dousing himself in petrol and ignited the fuel in the presence of officers. Police personnel immediately intervened to put out the fire. During the effort to control the blaze, station writer Praveen also sustained burn injuries. Both Harshit and Praveen were taken by auto to MGM Hospital, where they are receiving medical care.
Family dispute cited as cause
Harshit reportedly told police that long-standing family discord between him and his wife had caused him severe mental distress. He alleged that his wife and mother-in-law had been harassing him and claimed that he had been separated from his child, which added to his anguish. Police said they are collecting details and will investigate the circumstances that led to the suicide attempt, including the exact nature of the family dispute and the allegations made by the youth.
Police action
Officers at Ajamjahi Mills station have begun recording statements and gathering information from the victim, his family members, and witnesses. Further clarity on the reasons behind the incident is expected after the investigation progresses and medical updates from MGM Hospital are received.
