Washington: Millions of Americans exercised their franchise on Tuesday in the 2026 US midterm elections. The outcome will decide the balance of power in Congress, with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats up for grabs.
The elections are also being closely watched as a test of President Donald Trump’s political standing and the Republican Party’s control of Congress. Amid the wider electoral battle, four candidates of Indian origin are chasing milestones that could expand the representation of the Indian-American community.
Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is running for Governor of Ohio, Democrat Nithya Raman is challenging incumbent Karen Bass for Mayor of Los Angeles, Democrat Pooja Sethi is contesting a seat in the Texas House of Representatives, and Democrat Pia Dandiya is seeking election to the US House from Florida.
