Washington: US President Donald Trump signaled a further deterioration of his relationship with China over the novel coronavirus, saying he has no interest in speaking to President Xi Jinping right now and going so far as to suggest he could even cut ties with the world's second largest economy.

In an interview with Fox Business Network broadcast on Thursday, Trump said he was very disappointed with China's failure to contain the disease and that the pandemic had cast a pall over his January trade deal with Beijing, which he has previously hailed as a major achievement."They should have never let this happen," Trump said.

Meanwhile, Trump said that nurses and healthcare workers sacrificing their lives to fight the Covid-19 pandemic is a "beautiful thing to see". Yes, 'beautiful'.The video which has now gone viral on social media shows Trump saying, "[Doctors and nurses] are running into death just like soldiers run into bullets ... it's a beautiful thing to see."

Trump's speech comes at a time when the United States is reportedly facing a massive shortage of PPE kits and other protective gear which healthcare workers require if they're going to fight from the frontlines.
