A heart wrenching case emerged again in Delhi as Police have arrested four people, including three minors in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of an 16-year-old girl in Swaroop Nagar in the north-western part of Delhi.
The victim's body was found in an open field close to Kushak Road on September 13 according to police. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making immediate identification tough, officials said.
Some parts of the body were allegedly eaten by stray dogs. Additionally, the police authorities mentioned that one of her hand was separated from her body.
According to investigators, the victim known to the accused and was in a tempo with him when the incident occurred. The group is believed to had alcohol in the car before sexually assaulting, stabbing and killing the girl. She was eventually thrown into the field as her body was dumped there.
No one in her family had reported her missing. Family members told police that she sometimes went out, and came back after a couple of days.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police analysed CCTV footage from over 50 cameras in and around the area during the investigation.
The investigators followed the tempo's movement through several camera feeds and found that the tempo that was seen near the scene of the crime was the one that was identified.
After searching the vehicle on September 15th and 16th, police traced it and arrested the driver. The probe resulted in one adult accused, Shivam alias Sudama. He is also known as Chuchu, and three juveniles aged 16-17 were arrested.
Two knives allegedly used in the crime and clothes donned by the accused have been recovered, police said. They added that they had also find the tempo used in the assault. Investigations for both forensic and technical, are still ongoing to clear up the incidents and establish the roles of each of the accused.
