Haridwar: The three-day 52nd All India Oriental Studies Conference concluded at Patanjali University in Haridwar, with discussions focusing on Sanatan Dharma, Sanskrit, Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian knowledge systems and the integration of traditional wisdom with modern science and education. Organised jointly by Patanjali University, Central Sanskrit University and Bharatiya Vidvat Parishad, the conference witnessed participation of around 1,800 delegates, including 32 vice-chancellors, over 90 saints, 552 teachers and professors, 467 research scholars and 403 students from across the country.

Yoga guru Swami Ramdev stressed the need to promote the Indian calendar and Vikram Samvat in national life. He said Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra should be understood as representations of human qualities and actions rather than merely castes. He also called for incorporating Indian knowledge traditions and Sanatan values into the education system.

Acharya Balkrishna described the conference as a historic moment, particularly highlighting the formation of the ‘Sanatan Shastra Shuddhi Samiti’ with the participation of saints from different sects.

Several eminent personalities were honoured. Acharya Balkrishna received the ‘Mahamahopadhyaya’ title, while Patanjali University Vice-Chancellor Sadhvi Dr Devpriya was conferred the ‘Maha Acharya’ award and Dr Shivani received the ‘Vyakaran Pandita’ award. Swami Ramdev was presented with the Vidyadhipati-Prashasti-Patram. The conference also saw the release of 35 books, presentation of research papers and participation of scholars in new research categories, including Indian Knowledge Systems, children’s literature and Indian research methodology. Professor Arun Ranjan Mishra was nominated as the new president of the All India Oriental Studies Conference.

Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Pradeep Batra praised Patanjali’s efforts in imparting traditional values to children.
