In a freak incident, a nine-year-old boy was attacked by about six stray dogs in Vignan Nagar near Vibhutipura lake in Bangalore on Monday afternoon.

Bangalore: In a freak incident, a nine-year-old boy was attacked by about six stray dogs in Vignan Nagar near Vibhutipura lake in Bangalore on Monday afternoon.

This incident happened when the boy was playing at a deserted place near his house. The locals noticed the boy and rushed him to a local hospital. Now he is said to be out of danger. Responding to the incident, BBMP officials have announced a compensation of Rs 10,000

According to the Bangaloremirror, The boy sustained bites on his head, right arm and thigh. The victim was first taken to Vinus hospital where he was provided first aid, tetanus and anti-rabies vaccination and then shifted to a government hospital. He underwent a CT scan at the Victoria Hospital, and he has no internal injuries," said a BBMP official.

Dr Shashikumar, joint director, animal husbandry, BBMP, said, "We will pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 and the medical expenses in case the hospital provides the bill. We need to see if they generate a bill as the services should be free as it is a government hospital."

The BBMP has now authorised the joint director of animal husbandry to sanction the compensation for stray dog bite cases to speed up the process as sometimes, the formalities take as long as a month. Of the 8,799 dog bite cases reported in 2019, only four victims have received compensation.

Randeep D, special commissioner, Animal Husbandry, BBMP, "We are utilising the Animal Birth Control programme common budget temporarily and later we will recover it from some other budget," he said. In case of a dog bite, the assistant director (animal husbandry) of the concerned zone will visit the spot and ensure the victim gets helps as soon as he hears of the case. He should collect all documents from the victim within three days and submit it to the joint director. He will have to review the case in three days and forward the application to the assistant director for the release of payment.
