Amit Shah Inaugurates 3rd Anti-Narcotics Task Force Conference
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday inaugurated the third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) heads in New Delhi, with discussions centred on implementing the targets outlined in the Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026-29.
The two-day conference, being organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 22 and 23, brings together ANTF chiefs from all 36 states and Union Territories, along with representatives of central government departments and other stakeholders.
‘United Resolve, Shared Responsibility’ Theme
The conference is being held under the theme “United Resolve, Shared Responsibility” and will review progress on the targets assigned to state and UT-level ANTFs under the recently released narcotics control vision document.
The discussions are aimed at strengthening coordinated efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse, while examining ways to improve the Centre’s supply-reduction, demand-reduction and harm-reduction measures.
Four Key Pillars Of Narcotics Control
The deliberations are structured around four strategic pillars outlined in the Vision Document for 2026-29:
- Enforcement, intelligence and operations
- Control of precursors and synthetic drugs
- Demand and harm reduction
- Capacity building and coordination
Eight technical sessions have been planned during the conference. Topics include dismantling drug-trafficking networks and cartels, prevention and rehabilitation, improving enforcement effectiveness, tackling synthetic drugs and illicit laboratories, destroying illegal drug cultivation, and investigating narcotics cases involving the darknet and cryptocurrencies.
Focus On Coordinated Action Against Drug Networks
The conference is expected to strengthen coordination between the NCB and state and Union Territory ANTFs over the next three years.
The discussions come up with specific measures to strengthen drug law enforcement and tackle the supply and demand sides of substance abuse, officials said.
The meeting also emphasises for a whole-of-government approach, coordinating between multiple departments and agencies in combating trafficking in drugs.
Amit Shah To Launch Awareness And NCB Initiatives
Shah will also unveil TV commercials during the event to raise awareness of the harmful impacts of drugs.
Foundation stones will be laid for new NCB Zone complexes in Lucknow and Dehradun. The conference will also feature the felicitation of the best-performing ANTF among states and Union Territories and the launch of the NCB's revamped website.
Three-Year Roadmap For Drug Control
The 2026-29 Vision Document will be a reference point to inform the conference's deliberations and will be used to inform narcotics-control efforts in the upcoming 3 years.
The government has revealed that the conference will facilitate greater cooperation between the various state-level task forces and the central agencies, with a view to achieving its overall goal of a Drug-Free India.
