Rohtak: Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday alleged that the BJP government was deceiving sanitation workers and employees of the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN).
“The government lied in the Legislative Assembly regarding these contractual employees. On the demand pertaining to the sanitation workers, it said no policy could be formulated to regularise them just after two years of their service. “It also falsely claimed that the Congress had only formulated a policy to regularise employees who had completed 10 years of service,” he said here.
The sanitation workers have been on strike since August 6 in support of their various demands, including securing permanent employment. Hooda produced two official notifications and pointed out that during the Congress tenure, two policies were formulated on June 16, 2014, and June 18, 2014, deciding to regularise employees who had completed three years of service.
“These policies were upheld as valid by the courts. In contrast, the BJP had exerted all its efforts to remove employees regularised under our policy and to prevent others from being regularised,” the Congress leader said. Hooda also said a notification issued by the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh had decided to regularise contractual employees after two years of service. “This demonstrates that the BJP government in Haryana intends to deprive these contractual employees of their rights by spreading falsehoods,” he said. He remarked that the BJP secured the votes of HKRN workers by lying during the elections and floated a poll gimmick promising to regularise them until retirement. The HKRN provides contractual manpower to all government departments in the state. “Now, when the Congress demands that the BJP fulfil its election promise, the chief minister himself has said in the House that the Kaushal Nigam is merely an alternative arrangement,” he claimed.
