Cabinet meet in Mangaluru will focus on coastal development, says Shivakumar

Mangaluru: Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday said the Cabinet meeting being held in Mangaluru was intended to provide fresh impetus to the development of coastal Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters at Mangaluru airport, Shivakumar said MLAs and MPs from the coastal and Malnad regions had met him and brought local issues and development demands to his notice.

“Their demands are in my mind. We will try to fulfil as many of them as possible through the Cabinet meeting,” he said.

He said the coastal and Malnad regions had a large number of educated people and needed greater attention to strengthen development.

On the Kasturirangan report, Shivakumar said a two-day special session had been convened to discuss the report as well as drought-related issues.

He said legislators would be given an opportunity to present their views on the Kasturirangan recommendations and that the Forest Minister would also submit a report.

Shivakumar said he would personally meet people affected by the report and visit the concerned areas to gather their views.

“I will speak to the people affected by the Kasturirangan report and directly collect their opinions,” he said. (eom)
