Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Tuesday accused the previous Congress government of being drowned in corruption and hit out at former chief minister Ashok Gehlot for allegedly indulging in the “politics of allegations” after turning a blind eye to wrongdoing during his tenure.
Addressing a BJP roadshow in Pali district ahead of the civic body elections, Sharma said the Congress should answer to the people on development rather than making political allegations.
He claimed that when the BJP government presented a report in the Assembly comparing its two years of work with the Congress government’s five years, Congress leaders ran away from the House instead of taking part in a debate. The chief minister said the Congress had delayed development for years by using the model code of conduct as an excuse for repeatedly holding local body and panchayat elections. He said the BJP government had moved towards “One State, One Election”, proving wrong the Congress leaders who had claimed such a system was impossible in Rajasthan. Sharma said the previous Congress government had turned sectors including power, roadways, dairy and cooperatives into “hubs of corruption”, while the BJP government was focusing on transparency, good governance and development. He claimed Rajasthan had now reached a position where it could supply electricity to other states.
The government had purchased 1,000 new buses for Rajasthan Roadways and another 1,000 were being brought in, he said. In the dairy sector, milk procurement had increased from 34 lakh litres to 47 lakh litres, Sharma claimed.
