The COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep through large parts of the country with cities turning into major hotspots.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep through large parts of the country with cities turning into major hotspots. India recorded the highest single-day spike with over 18,000 cases being reported on Friday. The countrywide count has now reached 5,08,953 as per the latest update put out on Saturday morning by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The death count now stands at 15,685. There are 1,97,387 active cases, while 2,95,881 patients have been cured or discharged. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has carried out tests on 79,96,707 samples. On Friday, 2,20,479 samples were tested.

Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal have been contributing the most among the states in terms of the COVID caseload in the country.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state with its COVID-19 tally now crossing the 1,50,000 mark. The state has reported 1,52,765 cases and 7,106 deaths. Maharashtra has recorded 65,844 active cases. On Friday alone, Maharashtra reported 5,024 cases.

Delhi, with its rising numbers, has gone past Tamil Nadu in the number of confirmed cases recorded and has reported 77,240 cases and 2,492 deaths. Delhi reported 63 deaths on Friday and has recorded 27,657 active cases.

Tamil Nadu, reeling under the onslaught of the COVID-19, has reported an overall tally of 74,622 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 957 deaths. The state has reported 32,308 active cases. Tamil Nadu recorded 46 deaths and 3,465 fresh cases on Friday.

Gujarat has reported 30,095 COVID-19 cases, of which 6,294 are active. The state has reported 1,771 deaths. On Friday, Gujarat recorded 580 cases and 18 deaths.

Uttar Pradesh has recorded close to 21,000 cases with the state tally climbing to 20,943 confirmed coronavirus cases. 630 deaths have been reported from the state. UP has 6,730 active cases.

Rajasthan has recorded 16,660 confirmed coronavirus cases so far with 380 deaths. The state has reported 3,218 active cases.

West Bengal has seen a spike in recent days and has so far reported 16,190 cases of coronavirus, with 616 deaths. The state has reported 5,039 active cases.

Haryana which has seen a surge in the number of COVID-19 recent weeks and has reported 12,884 confirmed cases and 211 deaths. The state has reported 4,657 active cases.

Madhya Pradesh has recorded 12,798 confirmed COVID-19 cases with the total death count in the state now reaching 546. The state has reported 2,448 active cases.

Telangana is now among the top ten worst-affected states and has reported 12,349 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 237 deaths. The state has reported 7,346 active cases. Telangana reported 985 fresh cases on Friday.
