NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, in central Delhi a 25-year-old woman doctor was found dead with her throat slit at her rented accommodation in Ranjit Nagar. The prime suspect is a doctor who lives in an adjacent room in the same building, the police said.

The woman, has been identified as Garima Mishra, who was an MD aspirant and belonged to Gorakhpur. Her body was found in her room which is located on the third floor of the building. Mishra had completed her MBBS and was preparing to pursue MD. For the past few months, She had been working as a junior resident doctor at Dr. N.C. Joshi Memorial Hospital in Karol Bagh.

The police received a call around 11:30 PM on Tuesday about a woman found dead in Ranjit Nagar. The body had multiple injuries on the neck. A broken kitchen knife with blood stains on it was found near the body, the police said.

"We were informed by her [victim's] landlord about the incident. The landlord was alerted by Mishra's cousin who had gone to her room to check on her as she was not responding to his calls," said a police officer.

Investigation has revealed that Chandra Prakash Verma, also an MD aspirant, who lived in the room adjacent to the victim was missing after the incident. Mishra and Dr. Verma, attended the same coaching in Karol Bagh.

"Dr. Verma's roommate, Vikas, also a doctor, had gone to the temple, and said he had found Dr. Verma in a state of panic when he returned. Dr. Verma told him that he was going to return a book to his batchmate and would come back soon, but did not return. He took his ID card along," said a police officer.

DCP (Central) M.S. Randhawa said a murder case has been registered at Ranjit Nagar police station. "Two police teams are working on the case. The accused will be traced soon. The body was handed over to family after the post-mortem," he said.
