MP: Truck hits students in Gwalior, one killed

Gwalior: Two students riding a motorcycle were hit by a speeding truck in Gwalior, leaving a 17‑year‑old student dead and his friend seriously injured, police said on Saturday.

The accident occurred on Friday evening near Khurairi Crossing under Murar police station limits when the students were returning home after meeting a friend in the Baragaon area.

Police identified the deceased as Lavkush Dhaval, a Class 12 student and resident of Santosh Nagar in Gohad, Bhind district. According to police, Lavkush and his friend Prashant Kumar were travelling on a motorcycle when a truck allegedly hit their vehicle from behind near Khurairi Crossing.

The impact threw both students onto the highway. Lavkush came under the truck’s wheel, which ran over his head, killing him on the spot. Prashant suffered serious injuries to his head and right leg.

Police rushed the injured students to the District Hospital in Murar, where doctors declared Lavkush dead. His body was sent to the mortuary for post‑mortem examination, which was conducted on Saturday afternoon. Prashant is undergoing treatment at the hospital and is stated to be in critical condition, police said.

After the accident, the truck driver fled from the spot. Police and other motorists pursued the vehicle, after which the driver abandoned the truck and escaped.

The police seized the truck, bearing registration number RJ 11‑GB 2235, and launched a search for the driver. Murar police station in‑charge Maina Patel said the investigation was underway and efforts were being made to trace the truck driver.

She confirmed that one student had died in the accident and his friend sustained injuries, adding that the truck had been seized and a search was on for the absconding driver.
