MP: Woman arrested for killing grandfather, alleges prolonged sexual abuse

Indore: A 20-year-old college student has been arrested by the Aerodrome police station in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly murdering her 75-year-old grandfather by repeatedly striking him on the head with a cricket bat late Saturday night.

The accused has claimed that the elderly man had been sexually harassing and abusing her for a long time, driving her to the extreme act.

According to police, the young woman, who lives with her parents in Mahalaxmi Nagar, arrived at her grandparents’ house on a “Bullet motorcycle” at night and stayed there.

An argument broke out, after which she allegedly picked up a cricket bat and hit her grandfather multiple times on the head. When the victim’s wife saw him covered in blood, she raised an alarm. Family members rushed the injured man to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The grandfather, a retired SAF (Special Armed Forces) personnel, lived separately with his wife. During interrogation, the student told police that her grandfather had been “lewdly eyeing” her and making repeated indecent advances. She said she had been suffering mental distress for a long time due to the alleged rape and sexual abuse, and that the harassment continued daily.

Fearing public shame and family disrepute, she had not disclosed the matter to anyone earlier. When the situation became unbearable, she allegedly committed the murder.

Police arrived at the scene, took the body into custody, and sent it for post-mortem.

Investigators found the granddaughter’s role suspicious and arrested her after interrogation.

Senior police officers said that the accused has levelled serious allegations of indecent behaviour against her grandfather. Police are examining the motive and circumstances of the murder, whether any prior complaints were made to the family or authorities, and the veracity of the sexual abuse claims.

Other family members are also being questioned, and evidence is being collected from the scene. The student is also undergoing psychological questioning. Further action will depend on the post-mortem report and the findings of the ongoing investigation.

Police said the complete facts will emerge only after the probe is concluded. The incident has created a sensation in the area.
