Sufferings Of Policemen During Protest Were Ignored, Says Families Of Police Personnel
At a news conference on Friday, the family of Delhi Police officers who were injured during the recent student demonstration at Jantar Mantar in the nation's capital claimed that police officers were subjected to persistent attacks during the agitation.
Conflicts between protesters and security guards occurred during the Gen Z-led demonstration at a number of New Delhi locales, including Parliament Street, Connaught Place, and Jantar Mantar.
The families called on authorities to guarantee justice for the injured policemen and demanded attention to the injuries sustained by a number of police officers, whose treatment is still ongoing. They believed that the pain and sufferings of the policemen were ignored.
Additionally, they claimed that despite claims of police violence against students, the pain endured by officer families had gone unnoticed.
A Delhi Police sub-inspector's daughter claimed her father was "almost lynched" after he was injured during the demonstration. She said that the attack rendered him unconscious and left the family with long-lasting anguish.
“On July 25, my father was dragged by a violent mob and was almost lynched near the stage at Jantar Mantar. At around 2 pm, he was admitted to RML Hospital, where he remained unconscious for nearly four hours,” she added.
Before joining the police, she claimed, her father had spent fifteen years as a Marine Commando in the Indian Navy.
"His uniform was completely soaked in blood," she continued. While recalling, she stated that it was quite terrible for them to see him in that state. She said that night was really challenging for the whole family and that her father had four stitches on his head.
Several family members of police personnel including assistant commissioner of police raised the issue of police injured during the clash between police and CJP protesters in Delhi on July 20.
Meanwhile, the protest came to an end as the government assured to fulfill the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) primary demands, ending the party's 36-day demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Saturday. These included the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union's education minister at the time, the withdrawal of FIRs, a guarantee that there would be no reprisals, and a pledge to take into account more extensive examination reforms.
