Bhubaneswar: Achyuta Samanta, noted educationist and KIIT/KISS founder, has been unanimously elected as the first President of Indian UniSport Federation (IUSF) at its inaugural Annual General Body Meeting. Following his election, he called for collective efforts to prepare Indian athletes for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and urged stakeholders to work together to realise the Prime Minister’s vision for sports development.

Recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Federation aims to promote transparent governance and opportunities for university athletes. His election highlights his work at KIIT and KISS, where he integrated education, welfare, and excellence. Under his leadership, these institutions built a premier sports ecosystem with over 30 facilities, professional coaching, sports science, nutrition, and medical care.

Twenty-four KIIT and KISS athletes have represented India at major international events like the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World University Games, with KIIT serving as India’s nodal university for the latter since 2019. Most recently, a historic 54-student contingent from these institutions competed at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning an impressive 21 medals (three gold, seven silver, and 11 bronze). As IUSF President, Samanta emphasised fair competition, accountable governance, and athlete-centered development, thanking Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the Sports Ministry, and key stakeholders for their support.
