Sambalpur will be developed as Skill Lab: Pradhan
Bhubaneswar: Aimingto transform Sambalpur into a “skill laboratory,” MP Dharmendra Pradhan announced plans to provide rural youth with employment-focused training and cultivate a new generation of digital content creators across local villages.
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Pradhan launched two new-age courses, “Self-Healthcare and Wellness” for youth and “AI Tools for Collaborative Learning” aimed at strengthening teachers’ digital and technological capabilities, at the Odisha State Open University (OSOU) campus in Bhubaneswar.
He also laid foundation stone for RISHI (Residential Internship and Skill Hub for Industry) building at the OSOU campus. Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said OSOU would provide short-term, employment-oriented courses to rural youth who are unable to pursue conventional school or college education. He said such programmes would enhance their skills, improve employability and increase their earning potential.
Pradhan announced that audio-visual laboratories would be established over the next few years to train around 1,250 content creators and influencers. The trained youth would use social media and digital platforms to showcase the culture, traditions, lifestyle, natural beauty, temples and rural economy of their respective villages to audiences across the world, thereby giving their communities a distinct identity and greater visibility, he said.
Pradhan stressed that practical knowledge and skill development must complement academic education, asserting that young people can become truly employable only when they acquire industry-relevant skills rather than depending solely on bookish knowledge. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of skill development for all, along with the National Education Policy, has placed skill development on an equal footing with formal education.
Under RISHI project, students will receive practical training aligned with the changing requirements on the industrial sector, enabling them to become skilled, self-reliant and employment-ready, Pradhan said. He noted that global instability and disruptions in international supply chains have adversely affected employment opportunities in India.
Against this backdrop, the Prime Minister has called upon the youth not merely to seek jobs but to become job creators, he said.
Pradhan said around one crore young people in Odisha, accounting for nearly one-fourth of the State’s population, constitute the “Amrit Generation” of the 21st century. The responsibility for shaping Odisha’s future over the next 100 years rests largely on the shoulders of this generation, he added.
