Jasna Salim, a Muslim woman from Kozhikode, acquired fame a few years ago for her Lord Krishna paintings.
On Sunday, the 28-year-old fulfilled a long-held ambition by presenting an artwork of Lord Krishna to the god. Despite the fact that she has painted over 500 images of Little Krishna in the last six years, she had never had the opportunity to exhibit her work inside a temple until today.
Seeing Lord Krishna's statue and presenting my painting to the divinity had long been a goal of mine. She was overjoyed to have been able to grant that wish at Pandalam's Ulanadu Sree Krishna Swamy temple. Jasna remarked tha tshe has no words to express my joy and appreciation to the temple authorities.
Her dream was granted after a group of devotees approached her in search of an artwork to be donated to the Ulanadu Sree Krishna Swamy temple after one of her paintings of tiny Krishna seated with a butter pot went viral on social media. Jasna, a mother of two, isn't an artist by training. During her schooldays, she even struggled with routine drawing. When her teachers asked me to draw a map, my hands would tremble.
She explained that they acquired some old paper for domestic usage while their house was being built. A portrait of Lord Krishna reclining with a butter pot caught her eye among all of this. Jasna gives her first painting to a Hindu acquaintance.
She further explained that it was awe-inspiring. In our family and is the youngest of three sisters. My parents and other family members have warmly called me 'Kanna' since I was a toddler. So when I saw the picture of Lord Krishna, it sparked a desire in me to paint one. Her first painting was given to one of her Hindu friends.
Jasna added that after they installed my artwork inside their home, the family later told me that a lot of good things had transpired in their lives. That encouraged me, and after that, a lot of people approached me about painting Lord Krishna.Her artworks have been purchased by people from all walks of life.
Jasna remarked that for the past six years, I've been donating my Lord Krishna paintings to the Guruvayur temple during Vishu and Sree Krishna Jayanti celebrations. Little Krishna seated with a butter pot is the only image I can paint perfectly. And that image is in high demand. "I wish I could give Prime Minister Narendra Modi a Lord Krishna picture someday.
