Interesting facts about colours of vehicle number plates
Red plate with emblem
Red colour plate with 'Indian Emblem' represents the vehicle of the President of India and Governors of various states. For such a number plate, the license number is replaced by the Indian Emblem.
White colour
White plate with black license number represents the car of a common citizen of the country. It is worth mentioning here that the vehicle of the Prime Minister of India also has white colour number plate.
Yellow colour
Yellow number plate with black license number is used for commercial vehicles such as the vehicles used to transport goods and passengers. For example, the cars used by Ola, Uber and other taxis have yellow colour.
Green colour
Green colour number plates with white letters indicate electric vehicles. For example, Mahindra e20 and Tata tigor electric and road-legal electric buses.
Blue colour
White-letter with blue colour in the background indicates the vehicles used by foreign diplomats. Instead of state's code, these vehicles represents diplomat's country code
Black plate
Black plate with yellow number on it indicates self-driving rented cars. These plates are found on vehicles that can be utilised for commercial purpose without commercial driving permit. Zoom cars is the best example for this kind.
Number plate with upward-pointing arrow
The number plate with upward-pointing arrow in the beginning of the license number indicates the vehicles registered under ministry of defence i.e, all the military vehicles have upward-pointing arrow on the number plate.
Red plate with white numbers
This plate is used as a temporary number plate for a new vehicle until the permanent registration of the vehicle is done. The temporary registration is valid for a month, however, vehicles with this kind of number plates are not allowed to ply on roads in the country.
