Injury scares for India and England ahead of 2nd Test at Lord's
India vs England
India and England are set to lock horns in the second Test at Lord's, starting Thursday (Aug. 12). The first Test of the ongoing five-match series ended in a draw at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
Shardul Thakur
On the eve of the Lord's Test, India have an injury scare as medium-pacer Shardul Thakur could miss out due to a hamstring injury. Thakur had a great outing in the first Test, where he picked up four wickets.
Who will replace Shardul Thakur?
With the forecast indicating warm and dry conditions at Lord's, India could either go with a second spinner in Ashwin or pick a fourth seamer – Ishant Sharma or Umesh Yadav, considering reverse swing could come in the picture along with the usual seam movement and swing.
Stuart Broad
England fast bowler Stuart Broad was ruled out of the second Test due to a calf injury. Seamer Saqib Mahmood, who was impressive in England's recent ODI and T20 series wins over Pakistan, has been called up as cover for Broad, who was looking to make his 150th Test appearance.
James Anderson
England's other key pacer James Anderson missed Wednesday's training and is believed to be suffering from a tight quad.
England in trouble
While a decision is yet to be made by England, the hosts could well be heading into the second Test without their senior fast-bowling pair. Anderson and Broad together have a combined 1,145 wickets in Test cricket. Anderson had claimed a four-wicket haul in the first Test in Nottingham.
