The ICC T20 World Cup was first played in 2007 and MS Dhoni-led Team India had clinched the maiden edition by defeating Pakistan in the final.

Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib surpassed Shahid Afridi to become the leading wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup on Sunday during Bangladesh’s Group 1 game against Sri Lanka. Shakib claimed the record by making 2 dismissals but Bangladesh eventually lost by 5 wickets in Sharjah.
Shahid Afridi
The former Pakistan all-rounder was the leading wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup until being surpassed by Bangladesh's Shakib Al-Hasan. Afridi finished his career with 39 wickets in 34 T20 World Cup matches. In the 2009 T20 World Cup, which Pakistan won by beating Sri Lanka in the final, Afridi picked up 11 wickets.
Lasith Malinga
Malinga, who captained Sri Lanka to the 2014 T20 World Cup title, stands third in the list of most wickets in the history of the tournament. The legendary pacer has 38 wickets in 31 matches.
Saeed Ajmal
With 36 wickets in 23 games, Pakistan spinner Ajmal is the fourth leading wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup. In Pakistan’s title-winning campaign in 2009, Ajmal had bagged 12 wickets, while Umul Gul had finished with most wickets (13 scalps).
Ajantha Mendis/Umar Gul
Off-spinner Ajantha Mendis, who was a part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign in 2014, is a joint-fifth in the list of most wickets in the tournament, along with Pakistan pacer Umar Gul. They picked up 35 wickets each in the T20 World Cup, including a five-wicket and four-wicket haul each.
