Nagilla Rama Sastry Warangal: Kaloji Foundation convener Nagilla Rama Sastry has been conferred with the Kirti Puraskar award by the Telugu University in Hyderabad. 73 year-old Sastry, a retired employee of the electricity department, is known more to people in Warangal as a close associate of Padma Vibushan awardee and Praja Kavi Kaloji Narayana Rao.

During his more than four-decade-old association with Kaloji, he was virtually everywhere looking after his mentor’s needs. The Telugu University, which recognized Sastry’s literary work – ‘Kaloji Muchatlu’, selected him for the award for the year 2013. The book is all about his memoirs with the great Kaloji.

He is involved in several literary activities and also worked as the convener of the Mitra Mandali. Presently, he is looking after the Kaloji Foundation activities such as setting up of a museum in memory of Kaloji. Despite not being a poet, Sastry, who hails from Mulkanoor in Karimnagar district, is said to be an excellent literary critic.

Speaking to The Hans India, Ampasayya Naveen, Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winner, said, “Rama Sastry fully deserves Kirti Puraskar for his endeavours towards the literary world. With his immense knowledge, Sastry could be called as an authority on all Kaloji works, he said.
