Criticizing the name change of Delhi’s Aurangzeb Road to A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said that it was not enough to pay a tribute to the former President. The Hyderabad MP said that it would be better to name a new road after Dr Kalam instead of the name of Aurangzeb Road.

Mr Owaisi suggested that a scholarship programme to promote science education among children can be started and named after him which would be a befitting tribute to Dr Kalam.

He also recalled that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament recently that the name change of any place or road in the National Capital would be not in favour of the guidelines issued by the home ministry. As the New Delhi Municipal Corporation approved the change in the name of the road on Friday, Mr Owaisi said that the guidelines should be followed instead of renaming popular roads.
