70th Inter Zonal Badminton Championship underway
City Police Commissioner AB Venkateswara Rao inaugurated the 70th Inter Zonal Badminton Championship at Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao Municipal Corporation (DRMC) Indoor Stadium in the city on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Rao hoped that the players would enjoy their stay in Vijayawada which is emerging as a metropolis of the State.
City Police Commissioner AB Venkateswara Rao inaugurated the 70th Inter Zonal Badminton Championship at Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao Municipal Corporation (DRMC) Indoor Stadium in the city on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Rao hoped that the players would enjoy their stay in Vijayawada which is emerging as a metropolis of the State.
Nine teams from various States are taking part in the two-day championship, which will be held at the Indoor Stadium and Vijayawada Club near Tadepalli simultaneously. Badminton stars and budding players participated in the inaugural event. Teams from Telangana, Kerala, Haryana, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Air India, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), besides the hosting state, are competing in the championship. Ace players Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa, PV Sindhu, Srikanth Kidambi and HS Prannoy are in the PSPB team.
The Championship president MLA Gadde Ramamohan, MLAs Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Bode Prasad, Air Costa managing director LVS Rajasekhar and others spoke at the inaugural event. Badminton Association of India secretary M Ch Punnaiah Chowdary, championship organising secretary Y Punnaiah Chowdary and members of the Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association were also present.
