Dalit Stree Sakthi (DSS) national convener Jhansi Geddam has said there is an urgent need to bring awareness among dalit women on their rights, Acts and welfare schemes through campaigns. Speaking at a conference on ‘Dalit Women-Sustainability’, organised by the DSS here on Saturday, Jhansi said that voice of dalit women was often hushed up and ignored for many reasons. A majority of dalit women were exploited as they were ignorant of their rights.

Speaking at a conference on ‘Dalit Women-Sustainability’, organised by the DSS here on Saturday, Jhansi said that voice of dalit women was often hushed up and ignored for many reasons. A majority of dalit women were exploited as they were ignorant of their rights.

Unless dalit women were not economically empowered, equality and social justice could not be achieved in the competitive world. The dalit women should focus on becoming entrepreneurs as various schemes were in place for supporting them as entrepreneurs, she said. The DSS national convener urged the government to implement the SC/ST Sub-plan and other government schemes effectively and help improve the standards of the dalit women in society.

DSS national programme manager Daniel Vijay Prakash, State coordinator Bhagya Lakshmi, district coordinator Sirisha, State leader GDV Prakash were among those who participated in conference attended by dalit women from various parts of the State.
