Talking to the news men at the hospital premises here on Wednesday, Medical Oncologist Krishna Reddy said that the baby was treated with neoadjuant chemotherapy and she responded well to three cycles of chemotherapy.

The infant was suffering with the threatening malignant tumor at the time of admission in to the hospital. A team of doctors conducted post clinical investigation and found a large Hepatoblastoma (involving the right lobe of liver) a liver cancer occurring among infants, he said.

Explaining the operation procedure, he said that the gland was spread throughout the stomach. Three cycles of chemotherapy dose was given to the infant to reduce the size of the gland. Post chemotherapy the tumor arising from the right lobe was carefully resected. The infant, who underwent the procedure few days ago, has now fully recovered, he said.

Surgical Gastroenterologists Manisegaran said that ‘We have acquired the state of art facilities to do this procedure. Cavitron Ultrasonic Aspirator (CUSA) firsts of its kind in this region which help us in major liver resection and also to do retrieve the organs from the brain dead persons, he said.
