Marriage without dowry is almost a rare instance these days, though technically the term dowry is a social evil and is against the law. Despite higher education, commendable professional skills and huge pay packets, it is still a dark reality that women have to buy their life partners for a price.

Here is some change that was born 10 years ago and is sensitising the young men and women on marrying on mutual interests by getting to know eachother, than to look for dowry. www.idontwantdowry.com, www.withoutdowry.com, www.nodowry.net, www.merinews.com,www.pravasibandhu.com are a few matrimonial service websites that are working in introducing both genders to one another, who do not believe in dowry system.
Like all other matrimonial services, these websites helps in bringing the profiles of people who wish to marry, but on the strict line of not giving or accepting dowry. They have separate look out for men and women depending on their preferences of caste, religion, occupation, education, age and religious astrology. Monica Jonnalagadda, a techie opined, “Marriage today is undoubtedly a material issue. We cannot deny that marrying is for better prospects of life style. Given that women are equally financially enabled as men, it is not fair that dowry has to exist. The ancestral property by law belongs to the children of parents and it is entitled to them.”
About the phenomenon, a match maker P Vinoda Rao shared, “I have been in the match making business for a long while and witnessed many changes along the times. Educated women are voicing their demands and ideology towards marriage. It is undeniable fact that, educated men who are holding good career prospects are looking for dowry from a girl, who is educated and employed. Change is gradually visible.”
