Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Welfare Peethala Sujatha inaugurated an ICDS exhibition on food and nutrition at Pavitra Sangamam Kala Vedika at Ibrahimpatnam on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister underlined the need to promote awareness among mothers about nutritious diet to curb anemia and malnutrition in children.

As many as 48,770 Anganwadi centres and 6,837 mini-centres are functioning in the State. The Anganwadi centres with a staff strength of 1.04 lakh are extending various services to women and children to ensure their welfare. A sum of Rs 772 crore was allocated this financial year for maintenance of the Anganwadi centres in the State.

The government is spending Rs 750 crore per annum for implementation of the mid-day meal scheme in the State, she said. The Minister tied tags to children of Pushkar pilgrims on the occasion. Women and Child Welfare Secretary G Jayalakshmi, Special Commissioner KRBHN Chakravarthi and other officials were present.
