As part of its celebration for the ‘Women’s Equality Day in USA’ the US Consulate General is conducting an event for women athletes with special needs at Kasturba Gandhi Degree & PG College for Women in Secunderabad at 1.30pm on Friday.

The Day is celebrated every year on August 26 as a reminder of the 19th amendment to the Constitution of US, which granted women the right to vote in 1920 after a 72-year struggle.

Differently-abled women athletes will speak about their experiences and challenges at the event. In addition, a special athlete who now works for an American multinational will share her journey, too.

The event will help highlight the fact that persons with disability make equally invaluable contributions to the sports, and the impact of which extends well beyond sports. The event will conclude with a team sport played by mixed teams of special athletes and students of Kasturba College.
