The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organisation (FAPTO) opposed the State government’s decision on the implementation of teaching in English medium in schools. The State committee of FAPTO demanded in an announcement for the withdrawal of the government decision.

Chairman of FAPTO, P Babu Reddy stated that many educational institutions over the world teach in regional and native languages. “The students have the right to choose their medium of instruction at all stages of their education,” he said.

Further, he said that the State government is unnecessarily promoting English while many students from rural areas would face a hard time in learning. He stated that this decision would lead to a large number of dropouts in schools.

Secretary General G Hrudhayaraj commented that the government should bring rather useful procedures like increasing the teaching staff and constructing more number of schools in urban areas. “As urban population is increasing day by day, the government must come up with new schools,” he said.
