BMW X5 was first introduced last year in May 2013. For India, it made debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. At that time, BMW India only launched it with a single engine option – 3.0 liter diesel engine inline 6 cyluinder. This is the same engine which is also seen on board BMW 530d and 730d sedan. The engine is capable of 258 bhp.

With more enhanced dimensions than its predecessor, the new X5 is lighter due to incorporation of several weight saving measures. It is available in 5 and 7 seater options. Now, for the first time customers have the option of buying a petrol X5 in India. This is in the form of BMW X5 xDrive35i variant, which is offered in a single trim of – Design Pure Experience. Offered only as a 5 seater, the price of this car starts from INR 73.50 lakh, ex-showroom.

The three-litre inline six cylinder petrol engine of the new BMW X5 xDrive35i produces an output of 225 kW / 306 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,200 5,000 rpm. The car accelerates from 0 -100 km / hr in just 6.5 seconds. New BMW X5 is assembled in India from CKD kits at BMW’s plant in Chennai.

The third generation BMW X5 SUV gets better performance and more fuel efficiency than the outgoing model and a sportier stance. The list of specifications to be noted on board will include Active Driving Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Pedestrian Collision System, full range camera radar cruise control and Traffic Jam Assistant. BMW Night Vision, Head up Display and Parking Assistance is also to be offered along with Surround View System and Active Blind Spot Detection.
