In commemoration of legendary musician ‘Bharata Ratna’ MS Subbulakshmi, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur had organised music festival on Thursday and Friday at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College, Vijayawada.

The festival commenced with the violin concert of Embar S. Kannan of Chennai. Kannan had his initial training from Subbanna Bhagavathar and Vittal Ramamurthy. Further he trained under the guidance of A Kanyakumari.
The swarakalpana was shows the talent of the artiste and this item has highlighted the concert. P Subramaniam on mridangam and Anirudh Atreya on Kanjeera showed excellent co-ordination in presenting the item.
The next item of the first day was ‘Tala Vadya Concert’ presented by Peravali Jaya Bhaskar, the disciple of Yella Venkateswara Rao and his troupe. He started the concert with “ Sri Mahaganapateem’. The next item of the concert ‘ragam..tanam..pallavi’ was excellently composed by Jaya Bhaskar.
The Chaturasram-Trisram-samkeernam played on the mridangam, ghatam, table, tanil and morsing was mesmarised the audience. this exhibited the talent of the artistes. This concert was powerfully supported by P Nandakumar on violin, S Hanumantha Rao on ghatam, Murali on table, Ramachandrudu on tavil, Prasad on morsing.
The first day feast was concluded with the vocal concert of Shertalai Ranganatha Sharma, who had his training from K Narayana Iyer. Raghunatha Sarma exhibited his ability by rendering the ragas like Bahudhari, Pantuvarali, Kapi. His sharp and melodious voice was inspired the music lovers present there in the auditorium. The vocal concert was ably supported by Krishnaveni on violin and Phalgun on mridangam.
The Sangeet Natak Akadamy scheduled to present the Nagaswaram concert of A. Vijaya Karthikeyan, Mridangam solo concert of KV Prasad and vocal concert of Neyveli Santhanagopalam on Friday.
After bifurcation of the state the art lovers of the capital city and surrounding had an opportunity to enjoy the music and dance flavor of different states.
