Vijayawada: Students of Vijetha English Medium High School, Bhavanipuram, protested against the electricity department here on Thursday, demanding that the authorities replace damaged a concrete pole that might collapse anytime.

Speaking to the media persons, the school principal, Y Anjaneyulu Reddy said that the students of the school had been protesting against the electricity department for not taking any action to replace the damaged pole for a long time. “About three months back, a truck hit the electricity pole which was adjacent to the school main gate. In the accident, the electricity pole was badly damaged.

It broke in the middle and was hanging from the live wires,” informed the Principal. They immediately complained to the concerned Assistant Engineer (AE) to take action and replace the pole. In the course of time that officer was transferred and a new AE took charge.

He said that several times, they requested for the replacement of the damaged pole but the engineers ignored their request. He said that the leaders of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) also raised their protest against the electricity department to replace the damaged pole, as hundreds of school students and teachers pass through that place everyday. “Even then the electricity department is reluctant to act on it,” he added.
