The upcoming Assembly session should debate on the spate of suicides in the Telangana region, BJP senior leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy said on Friday. More than thousand lives were lost for the cause, and it is time that all parties including Congress and TDP raise the issue in the Assembly, he felt.

Talking to reporters here, Nagam Janardhan Reddy informed that he would talk to TRS floor leader Etela Rajender to seek support on discussion on suicides for Telangana in the Assembly.

The separate statehood agitation of 1969 was discussed on several occasions in the Assembly at that time, he informed and lamented that such commitment was not to be seen in the State in the last three years. Meanwhile, Nagam lashed out at TRS leader T Harish Rao for his remarks at a meeting held a day earlier in Medak.

"Harish Rao alleged that BJP did not concede Telangana along with three other states in 1999. One should remember that Telangana was not at all in NDA's agenda at that time. Despite that, LK Advani showed interest in giving statehood status for Telangana. However, N Chandrababu opposed it, tooth and nail," he said.

Nagam questioned whether TRS was pinning hopes on UPA, which deceived public in 2004 and 2009, to concede Telangana after 2014 elections. He advised TRS not to target the saffron party that was very committed on the issue.
