Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders organised a massive ‘Santhi Deeksha’ programme in front of the District Collectorate here on Wednesday in support of statehood for Telangana region.

A large number of employees, workers, students and Telangana activists took part in the programme and raised ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans.
While addressing the gathering, TJAC co-convener Mallepalli Lakshmaiah lambasted Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for opposing the formation of separate Telangana state. He observed that the chief minister did not respond when there were agitations in the Telangana region and hundreds of students ended their lives in support of the statehood demand.
“Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy is supporting the ongoing agitation in Seemandhra districts by opposing his own party’s decision on Telangana issue. He is acting like “Chief Minister of Seemandhra region” and making trips to Delhi to stop State division. He has no moral right to continue as Chief Minister of the State as he has been showing partiality towards one particular region,’’ he said.
Commenting on the proposal to grant Union Territory status to Hyderabad, Lakshmaiah observed that the move would affect the interests of Telangana people and that it would not work in the case of Andhra Pradesh. Seemandhra people were agitating for Hyderabad and not for keeping the State united, he added.
TRS leader Etela Rajender criticised that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had refused to give permissions to rallies and meetings by Telangana activists, had extended full support to the proposed meeting of APNGOs in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister hatched a conspiracy to suppress Telangana movement by arresting T activists and leaders and by preventing their meetings, he mentioned. Telangana people were observing the Chief Minister’s actions and they would “teach him a lesson after division of the State,” he said.
The TRS leader made it clear that they would go ahead with their ‘Santhi Yatra’ programme in Hyderabad on September 7, irrespective of the government’s permission.
TRS leader Ravinder Reddy condemned the reported attacks on Telangana employees in Seemandhra districts and demanded that the government should provide security to the employees. Telangana Employees JAC president Devi Prasad, TRS district president Eeda Shankar Reddy, former MP Vinod, MLS Naradasu Lakhman Rao and others were present.
