Hyderabad: Demanding that the State government convene the Assembly immediately to adopt a resolution against the bifurcation of State, YSR Congress Party President YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday announced that his party would organize a mammoth public meeting ‘Samaikya Shankharavam’ in support of united State in the state capital between October 15 and 20.
Addressing the first press conference after he was released on bail on September 24, he said that besides writing to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on the issue, the party also put forth the demand to hold a special Assembly session before Governor ESL Narasimhan.
The only option left before the parties seeking to stop the division of state is to adopt a resolution in support of united State and forward the same to the union government before it drafts Telangana bill. If the bill is drafted and sent to the state before adopting resolution, the efforts to halt bifurcation process would not yield any results, Jaganmohan Reddy cautioned. In a bid to convince Telangana people, Jagan assured them he will move the State forward towards development in the united State. It was his father and former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy who conceived the plan to construct Pranahita-Chevella projects to solve irrigation and drinking water problems in Telangana. After YSR’s death, the project was stalled.
“State will turn into a desert if it is divided. People will fight against each other in Telangana as well as in other regions for Godavari and Krishna river waters in the divided State,” he said. Seemandhra would also plunge into an economic crisis and would not be able to pay salaries of its employees if Hyderabad was lost. The capital is the major source of revenue. All welfare schemes meant for poor will also be affected badly in the divided state.
Lashing out at both Congress and TDP for their vote-bank politics, he stressed the need to unite all parties against state division. If all political parties fought against the division, the Centre would revoke its decision.
Dismissing reports that he had struck a secret deal with Congress, Jagan asked whether he would go to jail for 16 months if he had any understanding with Congress.
“It was Congress and TDP which conspired to malign my political life by filing cases in the courts. It was Telugu Desam which supported Congress when the FDI bill was introduced in the Parliament and also protected the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government during the no-confidence motions moved by my party,” he explained.
