Over 2,000 students of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) stayed away from classes on Tuesday to pay homage to Usha Sahu, the 24-year-old B Ed student who committed suicide on the campus on Monday night.

In the evening, the students held a candle-light vigil on the campus, mourning the untimely death of Usha, a native of Odisha. Students affiliated to unions, including TSA and DAMBSA, alleged that lack of basic facilities on the campus was contributing to the increasing number of suicides.

“After the appointment of the new VC, over the last one year this is the third suicide on the campus, apart from an accident of a Class IV employee while he was on duty,” said Nainala Satish Kumar, a Ph D student and TSA general secretary.
