AP: 13 youth land in jail in Malaysia, rescued

• All of them hail from twin Godavari districts
• They went to Malaysia for jobs 2 months ago

• They were instead sent on tourist visa
• As visa term expired, they were jailed
• A Telugu man settled in Malaysia rescues them

A group of 13 young men from East and West Godavari districts have returned from Malaysia, after undergoing imprisonment and untold miseries. They belong to fishermen community in Antharvedi, Pedamainavanilanka, Kothathota, Ganapavaram, Kakinada and some other places in twin Godavari districts.

An unscrupulous agent had sent them there two months ago with promise of employment. But, he duped them and sent them on tourist visa, instead.

According the victims, who landed at Narasapuram railway station on Sunday, the agent collected Rs 60,000 from each of them.

The local agent concerned in Malaysia left them in lurch after the expiry of the visa period. As they stayed beyond the stipulated time, officials detained. They suffered imprisonment until a Good Samaritan, Pulaparthi Srinivas, who is settled there and working as facilitator for arranging cinema settings for the Indian film industry, came to their rescue. He arranged for their release and also return journey. Srinivas belongs to Sitarampuram village near Narasapuram town.

Speaking to media, the youth alleged that Myla Mutyala Raju and two others from Pedamainavanilanka duped after collecting the money. They said they would file a case against them in the local police station.

But for the benevolence of Srinivas, they would have come back home, they said. The agents promised them good jobs and they had all dreamt that they would improve the living conditions of their families by remitting savings from there.
