The Minister for Major Industries J Geeta Reddy said that the government was actively encouraging women entrepreneurs to up industries in the State.

Inaugurating the two-day ‘National Vendor Development Programme Cum Industrial Exhibition,’ she said the government’s focus was to support women entrepreneurs. She said, “10 per cent of lands acquired by APIIC in the State would be allocated to women industrialists, besides setting up dedicated industrial corridors for women in each district.” Business parks were established in Zahirabad, Chittoor and Prakasam district, she averred.

The exhibition is being organised by the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) at National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Business Park. It aims at providing a platform to showcase the products and services of MSMEs to government establishments, PSUs and large-scale industries and to provide marketing opportunities.

The Minister said the MSMEs were playing a key role in development of the country by significantly contributing to the generation of employment. They also account for 9 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.

The State government was extending support to the MSMEs just as it was helping major industries. Large-scale industries cannot exist without micro, small and medium enterprises, she said.

She further stated that the government was backing up the MSMEs with a passion that cannot be seen anywhere in India. Both financial and infrastructural support would be offered to improve performance of the SMEs, she asserted. Assuring to address the challenges faced by the sector, she said that a meeting would soon be conducted to solve the issues of the MSMEs.
