The NHPC officer was kidnapped by the militants in September in a deep jungle on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The militants demanded Rs 20 crore ransom to set him free. The Assam government assigned the task of rescuing the official to Vijaya Krishna, who belongs to Tiruvur town in Krishna district. He devised a strategy and executed it ably and rescued the NHPC official in the small hours of Tuesday. On learning the news, the elated family members, relatives and friends congratulated him.
